When you have a problem with the plumbing in your house, then it is a little more straightforward to find the issue and repair it than when you live in a flat or apartment. There can be issues with the plumbing in a flat that are caused by one of the neighbours, so it is vital that you can accurately diagnose the issue and make repairs to prevent further damage from happening. If you live in an apartment and you are worried about the state of your plumbing, below are some things to look out for which may mean that you have an issue.

Blocked Pipes & Drains

You can find that the water drains, and pipes can get blocked up from all the wastewater coming from apartments above you if there is a blockage in the system. The backup will most likely be lower than the affected apartment, so you may need to speak to your neighbours if you are having an issue. If you are experiencing a problem, you will need to look for blocked drains solutions you can trust in your local area, who will be able to fix the blockage and get things back to normal again. To keep things working in excellent condition, you will need to be careful with what you wash down your sinks, and ensure that oil, fat and grease, and you dispose of bits of food correctly, rather than letting them go down the drain which can cause blockages and other issues.

A Leak In Your Roof

If you are living in an apartment and you find that there is water coming from your ceiling, the most likely cause is going to be your neighbours above you. The first thing that you should do is speak to them and see if they have had an issue with their plumbing, and it may be something that they are not aware of so they will need to investigate. The good news is that this is not going to be down to you to fix, your neighbour is going to have to fork out for any repairs. However, your furniture may be ruined if it gets wet and is not addressed immediately, so you will need to speak to your neighbour about compensation, or if you have insurance coverage, talk to your provider and submit a claim.

Foul Smelling Drains & Pipes

Another common problem with the pipes and drains in an apartment is the smell that can sometimes come from them. Foul odours are usually caused by food items getting washed down the drains which should not be, and they can cause blockages if they are left to fester. To help stop your drains from getting blocked by food particles, fat, and oil, it is advisable to have an experienced plumber clean them every year or so, to help keep them free from debris and stop foul odours from occurring.
