5 Common Bathroom Issues & How To Fix Them
Managing a family home is full of challenges, and property maintenance is an ongoing aspect of home ownership that comes with the territory. This article takes a look at some common bathroom issues and repair options for each.
Unstable Water Temperature
There’s nothing worse than taking a shower in water that runs hot and cold, which could be due to the tank being emptied. If 2 or more people shower after each other, this could use most of the hot water, which is automatically replaced with cold water and that needs time to heat. If this problem persists, why not install a hot water on demand system that heats the water as it passes through the gas or electric water heater.
Low Water Pressure
This typically occurs in an upstairs bathroom when the mains water pressure is low enough to slow water down as it travels upwards. If this only seems to happen with the shower, check that the shower head is free from obstruction and if so, order a replacement from one of the bathroom showrooms in Bracknell, or wherever you are located. These showrooms offer many quality items at affordable prices.
Clogged Waste Disposal
If the shower or toilet is backed up, you may have a partial drain blockage. If that is not addressed, it will soon become a full blockage. We don’t recommend you tackle a drain blockage yourself, as you can easily make it worse if you don’t know what you’re doing. Call in a drain unblocking specialist and they can use a CCTV buggy to take a close-up look inside the drains, which makes unblocking much easier.
Leaking Faucets
Sooner or later, the rubber washers wear down and the water pressure forces a leak, which starts as a few droplets and soon grows to regular dripping, which can stain porcelain and ceramics. If the taps have seen better days, you are advised to replace the taps with new ones, otherwise you need to replace the offending washers. Any hardware store would stock washers; simply tell the staff the make and model of the taps and they can furnish you with new washers.
Loose Towel Rails
If pressure is put on a towel rail, it could loosen the screws and before long, the rail would fall away from its fixing. Sometimes children pull at a towel and this puts pressure on the fixing, causing the screws to work loose. It is an easy fix; simply remove the rail and replace the rail plugs and also the screws. If the plastic plug is not flush with the wall, use a sharp cutter to remove the excess and re-attach the towel rail, making sure it is level.
All of the above are minor issues and if you are thinking about a bathroom revamp, take a drive to your local bathroom showroom and check out their stunning range of bathroom furniture, fixtures and fittings.
