If You Had A Million Dollars, What Would You Do With It?

Let’s have a scenario where you don’t do the saintly thing to do, which is to return the money or give it to the police who might possibly (not sure, don’t quote me on this one) just use it for themselves. Let’s also say that the money wasn’t from anything terrible or shady like the mafia or is some kind profit made from a brothel or from human-trafficking. Let’s also say that it is NOT stolen and is completely safe.

A mystery money, if you will.

You know what I would do? I would do a lot.

Pay Off Debts First

Let’s just get that out of the way. Those annoying buggers that are always at the back of your mind whenever you have your salary need to back off for good. While I don’t have any debt at all since I make it a point to NEVER get any, I can just offer to pay off my parents’ debts. All of them. Every single one of them.

Buy A House

Since a million dollars can either be too much or too little depending on where you are, let’s assume that where I am is somewhere that is not really all that expensive. That would mean I still have a lot of money left after paying off me and my parents’ debt. So I buy 2 houses that are fully equipped with everything and have already been fully paid. Why two? Because the first one will belong to my parents and the second one is mine, obviously. I have to have my own space, after all.

Invest

I recently just learned that you could get a lot of money back by investing. Even if you only invested at around a couple hundred or maybe a thousand, you could already get a lot back from that. So imagine investing about a few hundred thousand dollars in a safe investment decision. I’d be guaranteed a financial stability for life.

Donate the rest

This money was given to ME of all people (well, it’s fantasy but still) and I don’t really think it’s fair that it was me that was given such a large sum of money. I’m neither the kindest person nor am I someone really talented and smart to actually do a universal change to the world using that money. I’ve already spent what I needed to spend. The last thing I wold do is donate to charity. Orphanages, hospitals, research on curing cancer and aids, homeless shelters and suicide prevention. Those need the attention they could get. I’m not a generous person however I know what’s at stake here so I would give to charity not because I’m kind. I’ll do it because it’s practical and it helps us all in the end.
